Cooking and Nutrition Intent
At Malden Manor, we want to instill a love of cooking in our children, where, not only will they develop the vital cooking and nutrition skills to ensure their growing independence and lifelong good health, but they will also have the confidence to be creative and express themselves through their cooking skills.
Teaching children about cooking and nutrition can make a real difference to the quality of their lives, equipping them with the confidence to make healthy and affordable food choices and helping them develop a healthy enjoyment of food. Learning to cook from an early age can contribute to maintaining a healthy weight, good oral health and general health and wellbeing.
Our scheme of work is based on the Twinkl units, which we have modified to fit the needs of our children and to work alongside the rest of the curriculum. We provide the children with the opportunities to work with the school caterers, to grow some of their own food and cook with it, and to take part in activities with a local secondary school.
The Cooking and Nutrition curriculum at Malden Manor has been developed using both the National Curriculum and the scheme of work provided by Twinkl, with modifications to fit the needs of our children and to work alongside the rest of the curriculum, the resources and facilities available to us. The children have opportunities to work with the school caterers, to grow some of their own food and cook with it, and to take part in activities with a local secondary school.
